    Main topic for the seminar is Spatial Disorientation. A Barany chair will be present for limited demonstrations. PALS pilots will be on hand to give an overview of their organization and how they aid our communities through piloting.

    This is a great opportunity to get hands on experience in a Barany chair to understand spatial disorientation, don't miss this event.

    Peaks to Pavements Applying Lessons from the Backcountry

    Flying in the backcountry is an exciting and rewarding challenge with little room for error. It's an exacting environment that demands sound decision making, stellar stick and rudder skills, a thorough understanding of the weather, and an intimate knowledge of the airplane.

    Whether you're a seasoned backcountry flyer or flat-lander, you'll enjoy this new seminar, which delves into conditions, challenges, and accidents unique to backcountry flying. Together with your seminar leader you'll examine lessons learned to fly safely in any operating environment.

    Speaker: 
    Christine Mortine

    In addition to a career in classical music spanning over twenty-five years, Christine Mortine turned from conducting and playing instruments to flying them. She is an active flight instructor, having obtaining her CFI, CFII, MEI, Cirrus Training Center Instructor, as well as SIC in the Citation 500. 

    Christine is a FAA appointed Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and has joined the AOPA Air Safety Institute as an Instructor for the Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC).

    She serves on the boards of Scioto Valley Ninety-Nines, Professional Pilots Association, Columbus Symphony Orchestra and WOSU Public Media TV/Radio, and has volunteered with EAA, Young Eagles, Angel Flights and Hospice.  She is a member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Instructors (SAFE), National/International Association of Flight instructors (NAFI), Ohio Aviation Association (OAA) and Women in Aviation International (WIA).

    Christine has spent her life backpacking, hiking and kayaking.  She was born in Minnesota, spent summers camping in Colorado and lived in Alaska for seven years.  She and her family take “adventure” holidays, much to the astonishment of her children.  (Now adults doing adventurous things) 

    Combining her love of the outdoors with general aviation, Christine covets flying her Cessna 185 “Songbird”, preferably towards the mountains.  She is an advocate for the Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) as an Ohio State Liaison and serving on their Safety & Education Committee.

    Attend this exclusive event and get a rare and behind the scenes look of an Air Traffic facility! Attendees will be furnished with a more complete understanding of the FAA's Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Cleveland Center in Oberlin, Ohio


    we are restricted to 30 people ONLY for this event. We must have the full list of attendees 3 weeks prior to the event. 

    This is a federal building so you will need to bring a photo ID and be a US Citizen to attend. No cameras or cell phone allowed in the building. 

    The tour will start promptly at 2:00 PM and last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. 

    If you want to fly to Lorain KLP we can coordinate with some who will drive to pick you up.
